Team Swinburne stays on track with the support of NHP

Team Swinburne hit the track at Winton Motor Raceway in December 2018 for the 19th annual Society of Automotive Engineers Australasia’s flagship Formula SAE-A student design competition.

The program provides cross-faculty teams with the opportunity to reinforce classroom theory by applying practical skills in the real world.

Engineering expertise and business ingenuity were put through their paces as long-standing participant Team Swinburne went head to head with 35 international teams made up of more than 750 students.

Over four days, the student teams were evaluated in the areas of Business Presentation, Engineering Design, Cost, Skid Pad, Acceleration, Autocross, Efficiency and Endurance in electric or internal combustion classes.

With the support of sponsors like NHP, Team Swinburne spent the year leading up to the event working together to deliver the complex engineering project while managing budget, commercial relationships, compliance issues and a hard deadline.

Team Swinburne competed in the electric class, with mostly new members in 2018, and achieved their highest ever score in Engineering Design, ranking 8th overall, and finished 6th in Business Presentation and 10th in Cost.

As local vehicle manufacturing declines in Australia, innovation and new ideas are critical to keeping the industry alive.

NHP is proud to support Team Swinburne and help foster the next generation of talent through this exciting learning initiative.
